THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Junior forward Raul Yepez scored the first-ever goal for the Kingsmen at William Rolland Stadium Monday night, but four unanswered Chapman goals were enough to hand the Kingsmen a 4-1 loss in their inaugural game at the new facility.
Box Score: CU 4, CLU 1 - F
In the final minutes of a hard-fought first half it was an attempted header by Yepez that forced Chapman goalkeeper Jimmy Adranly to initially mishandle a pass from sophomore defender Josh Kent.
Recognizing the error made by Adranly, Yepez quickly gained possession of the ball, spun around the Panthers netminder, and scored his team-high fifth goal of the season to give the Kingsmen a 1-0 lead.
That advantage would only last for a couple of minutes as Chapman was able to score its first goal of the night with 35 seconds remaining in the first half to even the score at one apiece.
Even though both teams recorded eight shots apiece throughout the second half, Chapman was able to find the back of the net on three of those occasions to pull away from Cal Lutheran, handing the Kingsmen a loss in the team's debut at the
newly-constructed stadium.
One of eight Kingsmen responsible for the team's 17 shots recorded against the Panthers, Yepez also finished the game with a season-high seven attempts.
Chapman finished the evening with 19 shots.
