THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team came out firing Wednesday night, scoring three times in the opening 10 minutes before cruising to a 4-1 victory over Redlands at William Rolland Stadium.
The Regals wasted no time setting the tone, striking just 1:06 into the match when
Sawyer Frye finished off a feed from
Isabella Haulman. Just over six minutes later,
Stephenie Hackett doubled the lead with an assist from Frye before Frye found the back of the net again at 9:28, once again assisted by Haulman, to give Cal Lutheran a 3-0 advantage less than 10 minutes into the night.
Frye wasn't finished, as the sophomore completed her hat trick just over five minutes into the second half to push the Regals' lead to 4-0.
Redlands got on the board off a penalty kick in the 72nd minute, but the Regals' defense held firm the rest of the way to secure the 4-1 victory.
Cal Lutheran dominated the night statistically, outshooting the Bulldogs 30-5 and putting 14 shots on target. The Regals also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The victory marked another strong team performance for the Regals, with 30 players seeing action throughout the match.
Kira Kasarda and
Reagan Keelan split time in goal, combining for two saves, while Cal Lutheran's defense limited Redlands to just three shots on target.
The Regals have now won three straight and improve to 6-1-3 overall and 3-0-2 in SCIAC play.
Cal Lutheran returns to action Saturday, October 3, traveling to Caltech for an 11 a.m. match.
