Five Goal Scorers Power Regals Past Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team continued its dominant run through SCIAC play Saturday morning, scoring six unanswered goals at Caltech.

The Regals wasted no time getting on the board, as Sawyer Frye scored just 1:14 into the match to give Cal Lutheran an early 1-0 lead.

Elena Baltazar doubled the advantage in the 29th minute, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from Chloe Smith. Smith then added her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute, assisted by Baltazar and Makenna Tanaka, to send the Regals into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Cal Lutheran picked up right where it left off in the second half, with Jessica Sprouse scoring twice in a span of 1:43 to push the lead to 5-0. Frye assisted Sprouse's second goal of the day.

Freshman Fiori Morin capped the scoring in the 61st minute, finding the back of the net for the first time in her collegiate career.

Cal Lutheran completely controlled the match statistically, outshooting Caltech 37-1 and putting 16 shots on goal. The Regals also held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The Regals' defense recorded its sixth shutout of the season, with Reagan Keelan and Kaitlyn Kensinger splitting time in goal. Neither goalkeeper was forced to make a save as Cal Lutheran limited the Beavers to just one shot, which came in the second half.

With the victory, the Regals improve to 7-1-3 overall and 4-0-2 in SCIAC play. Cal Lutheran returns home Wednesday, October 7, hosting Whittier at 7 p.m. at William Rolland Stadium.
