LA VERNE, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team secured its fifth shutout of the season Saturday night, as Hahn's first collegiate goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 victory over La Verne at Ortmayer Stadium.
The Regals improved to 5-1-3 overall and 2-0-2 in SCIAC play, while La Verne fell to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference action.
With the score still deadlocked late in the first half, Hahn delivered one of the most spectacular goals of the season.
In the 41st minute,
Stephenie Hackett sent the ball back to Hahn, who unleashed a strike from deep that sailed past the La Verne goalkeeper and into the back of the net. The goal marked Hahn's first of her Cal Lutheran career and gave the Regals a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Cal Lu controlled much of the opening half, putting five shots toward the Leopards' goal while earning two corner kicks.
Kira Kasarda and the Regals' defense kept La Verne off the scoreboard, allowing just two first-half shots.
The Leopards came out looking for the equalizer in the second half, but the Regals' defense remained locked in.
La Verne managed three shots after halftime, but Kasarda turned away both of the Leopards' shots on target to preserve the shutout. The Regals also continued to create chances on the other end, finishing the night with nine total shots and five corner kicks.
Saturday's clean sheet marked Cal Lutheran's fifth shutout of the season, with all five of the Regals' victories coming by way of a shutout.
The Regals return home Wednesday, September 30, hosting Redlands at 7 p.m. at William Rolland Stadium.
