Blickenderfer Walks Off Redlands, Ends Pitcher’s Duel

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – In a game dominated by pitching from start to finish, Cal Lutheran baseball found just enough offense when it mattered most, as Jacob Blickenderfer delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Kingsmen to a 2-1 victory over Redlands on Friday afternoon at George "Sparky" Anderson Field.

With the win, CLU improves to 19-7 on the season and climbs back up in the conference standings with a 7-3 SCIAC record.

It was a true pitcher's duel throughout, with both teams held in check for the majority of the afternoon. The Bulldogs struck first with a run in the opening inning, but from there, Max McGrady took complete control. The right-hander was electric on the mound, tossing 8.1 innings while allowing just one run on five hits and striking out nine, keeping the Kingsmen within striking distance all game long.

Cal Lu threatened multiple times but couldn't break through until the seventh. Philip Jeong worked his way on base and came around to score on a clutch RBI double from Blickenderfer, tying the game at 1-1 and injecting life into the Kingsmen.

After McGrady exited in the ninth, Aidan Buntich came on and shut the door, recording the final two outs to keep things level and set the stage for late-game heroics.

In the bottom half, Jeong again ignited the rally with a leadoff single before Kai Caranto moved him into scoring position. After an intentional walk to Lucas Danielewicz, Blickenderfer stepped in and delivered once more, ripping a single through the right side to bring Jeong home and seal the walk-off win.

Blickenderfer led the Kingsmen at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs, including both the game-tying and game-winning hits.

The Kingsmen continue the series on the road with a doubleheader at Redlands tomorrow, April 4, beginning at 11 a.m.
