THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's tennis delivered a complete team performance on Saturday morning, defeating Occidental 6-1 at the Poulson Tennis Center.
The Regals set the tone early by securing the doubles point behind strong play at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Evelyn Oltmans and
Grace Balasian opened with a 6-3 victory at No. 2, before
Eva Toplak and
Anaya Ayanbadejo clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
Carrying a 1-0 advantage into singles, Cal Lu wasted no time building momentum. Toplak and Ayanbadejo each earned dominant straight-set victories at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, pushing the Regals ahead 3-0.
With the match within reach, Balasian delivered the clincher at No. 4. After dropping a tightly contested first-set tiebreak, she responded with authority, taking the next two sets to secure the overall victory for CLU.
The Regals continued to pile on from there.
Anya Rajan battled through a competitive three-set match at No. 2 to come out on top, while Oltmans capped the day with a comeback win at No. 3, rallying after a first-set loss to complete the 6-1 result.
Cal Lutheran returns to action on Saturday, April 18, traveling to Whittier for a 2 p.m. conference matchup.
