Leopards Take Two from Cal Lutheran at Sparky

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran baseball endured a difficult Saturday at "Sparky" Anderson Field, dropping both ends of a doubleheader to La Verne and conceding the weekend series after Friday's statement win.

The Kingsmen (21-10, 9-6 SCIAC) appeared in control early in the opener, but an unraveling top of the ninth flipped the game entirely, as the Leopards stormed back for a 10-6 victory. In game two, La Verne used a seven-run fourth inning to seize momentum for good in a 13-5 win.

GAME ONE: LA VERNE 10, CAL LUTHERAN 6
After falling behind 3-0, Cal Lu answered with a four-run third inning, highlighted by RBI efforts from Jacob Blickenderfer, Kai Caranto, and Wes Lynch to take a 4-3 lead. The Kingsmen continued to build, going up 6-3 after Wyatt Crosby's home run in the sixth.

CLU had done enough for eight innings, but in the ninth, La Verne capitalized on walks and timely hits to string together six runs and overcome the deficit before the Kingsmen could record the final outs.

Crosby led the offense in game one with a 3-for-4 performance, while Lynch added an RBI double. Despite a strong 4.2 innings of relief from Ryan Jung to steady the middle frames, the late collapse proved too much to overcome.

GAME TWO: LA VERNE 13, CAL LUTHERAN 5
Game two followed a bit of a similar script. After Cal Lu took a 2-1 lead in the third on RBIs from Philip Jeong and Crosby, the Leos responded with a decisive blow in the fourth inning.

ULV erupted for seven runs, using a mix of more timely hitting and pressure on the bases to turn a tight game into an 8-2 deficit that the Kingsmen were unable to recover from.

Cal Lu showed brief life late, cutting into the deficit with a two-run double from Jeong in the eighth, but La Verne continued to tack on runs and kept the game out of reach.

Caranto paced the offense in the nightcap with two hits, while Jeong drove in three runs.
