THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's lacrosse team bounced back in a big way on Monday afternoon, putting together a complete performance to defeat Linfield 12-8 at William Rolland Stadium.
The Regals came out firing early, controlling possession and setting the tone on both ends of the field. Cal Lu built a strong 6-3 advantage in the first half behind efficient offense and solid draw control, taking a three-point lead into the break.
Josie Oparanaku and
Madison Soforenko led the charge offensively, each tallying four goals in standout performances. Oparanaku added two assists for a team-high six points, while Soforenko consistently found space and delivered in key moments, including two late goals to help seal the victory.
Linfield made a push in the second half, cutting into the deficit and narrowing the score to 8-7 midway through the fourth quarter. However, the Regals never lost control, responding with a crucial 4-1 run down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Marina Markrud contributed two goals, while
Marley Hunter and
Sydnee Hill each added one to round out the scoring.
Sydney Shin facilitated the offense with three assists, helping keep the attack balanced and effective.
In goal,
Bella Bravo delivered a dominant performance, recording 14 saves and anchoring the defense through several key stretches as Linfield attempted to rally.
As a team, the Regals outshot Linfield 30-25 and held a 13-9 edge in draw controls, showcasing a strong all-around effort in the win.
Cal Lutheran improves to 3-6 overall and will return to action on Thursday, March 26, hosting Whitworth at 4 p.m.
