Seven Arms, 11 Runs Highlight Shutout of Curry

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran baseball team erupted for seven runs in the opening inning and never looked back on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Curry 11-0 in seven innings at George "Sparky" Anderson Field.

The run-rule victory marked the Kingsmen's fifth straight win as Cal Lu improved to 13-3 on the season. The game featured contributions from across the roster, with the Kingsmen rotating pitchers each inning and working nearly their entire lineup into the game.

CLU wasted no time taking control in the bottom of the first. Philip Jeong opened the inning with a single and later scored when a balk allowed runners to advance, putting the Kingsmen ahead 1-0. Jacob Blickenderfer followed with an RBI before Troy Anderson delivered the big swing of the inning, doubling to left field to bring home two runs and extend the lead to 4-0.

The Kingsmen continued to apply pressure as the inning unfolded. Wyatt Crosby scored after Gavin Farley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Jeong capped the rally with a two-run single through the left side to push the advantage to 7-0 after one inning.

Cal Lutheran added to its lead in the third when Farley doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Lucas Danielewicz. Another run came across in the fourth on a sac fly from Anderson, making it 9-0.

The Kingsmen sealed the run-rule victory with two more runs in the fifth. Wes Lynch and Danielewicz both came around to score on a two-run single by Jona Dawson, stretching the lead to 11-0.

On the mound, Cal Lutheran used seven pitchers, each working one inning while combining to hold Curry scoreless on five hits. Max McGrady earned the win after tossing a clean opening frame with one strikeout. Caleb Wilson, David Zambelli, Colten Hanson, Kyle Zahn, Jake Porter, and Kaysen Abara followed in relief to finish off the shutout.

At the plate, the Kingsmen totaled 12 hits. Jeong led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance and two RBIs, while Anderson went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Blickenderfer added a double and an RBI, and Dawson drove in two runs in the fifth inning to help close out the win.

Cal Lutheran will return to action Friday, March 13, when the Kingsmen host Willamette to open a three-game series at "Sparky" Anderson. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.
