Kingsmen Earn Two Wins on Day Two of Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – No. 5 Cal Lutheran men's volleyball picked up a pair of wins on Sunday during the second day of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational, defeating both Baldwin Wallace and Kean 3-1 inside Gilbert Arena.

GAME ONE: CLU def. Baldwin Wallace (16-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20)
After dropping the opening set, Cal Lu responded with three straight victories to secure the comeback win over the Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin Wallace came out hot in the first set, hitting a staggering .789 while building an early 9-6 lead that the Kingsmen could not overcome.

Cal Lutheran quickly regrouped in the second frame, finding its rhythm offensively while forcing the Yellow Jackets into 11 attack errors. The Kingsmen hit .474 in the set and used an early 5-1 run to grab the lead, steadily pulling away to even the match at one set apiece.

Momentum continued to swing in Cal Lu's favor in the third set. The Kingsmen recorded 13 kills in the frame and gradually built separation after benefiting from Baldwin Wallace errors to secure the first four points. A pair of late kills and a block by Gavin Galanski and Mason Rowell helped close out the set.

The fourth set featured a tight battle early before Cal Lutheran created distance behind strong play at the net and additional Yellow Jacket errors. An 8-2 mid-set run pushed the Kingsmen's advantage to 16-10, and Brendan Hom sealed the match with a kill.

Connor Crawford led the Kingsmen with 15 kills while hitting .429, while Hom added 13 kills and Aidan Godfrey chipped in nine.

Cal Lutheran was dominant defensively at the net, finishing with 11 team blocks. Rowell led the effort with seven, while Galanski added five and Matthew Wilcox contributed four.

Galanski directed the offense with 42 assists, while Braden Gonzales recorded a team-high six digs.

GAME TWO: CLU def. Kean (25-17, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18)
Cal Lutheran closed the day with another four-set victory, defeating Kean behind a strong offensive performance and aggressive serving.

After the Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead to begin the match, the Kingsmen quickly settled in and answered with a steady run sparked by a pair of kills from Hom. Multiple service aces and strong attacking helped Cal Lu take control late in the set and secure the opening-frame victory.

Kean responded in the second set, using its offense to build a lead midway through the frame and maintain the advantage down the stretch to even the match.

Cal Lutheran regained momentum in the third set, limiting the Cougars to a .000 hitting percentage. The Kingsmen raced out to a commanding 16-5 lead, highlighted by a pair of aces and multiple kills from Rowell and Hom, and never looked back in the convincing set win.

That momentum carried into the fourth set as Cal Lu continued to apply pressure on both sides of the ball. The Kingsmen built another early advantage and finished with an 8-2 run to close out the match.

Hom led all players with 21 kills and added four service aces in the win. Crawford contributed eight kills and three aces, while Godfrey finished with seven kills.

Galanski recorded 35 assists and led the team with 15 digs, while Gonzales contributed 14 digs to anchor the defense.
