THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's tennis team extended its dominant start to the season Saturday morning, blanking Bates College 7-0 in the Regals' home opener.
The victory marks the third consecutive shutout for the Regals, who have not yielded a single point to an opponent over their last three contests.
The first point of the match went to the Regals as they won all three double matches. The pair of
Eva Toplak and
Anaya Ayanbadejo led the charge at the No. 3 spot with a swift 6-1 victory. They were followed by
Evelyn Oltmans and
Grace Balasian, who secured a 6-3 win at No. 2, while
Kylee Limpias and
Anya Rajan completed the sweep with a 6-2 result at the No. 1 position.
The Regals maintained their stranglehold on the match as play transitioned to singles. Toplak was the first off the court at No. 6, nearly perfect in a 6-0, 6-1 rout. At the No. 5 spot, Ayanbadejo also remained efficient, cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Oltmans, playing at No. 3, officially clinched the team victory for the Regals. Her 6-2, 6-3 win provided the decisive fourth point, ensuring a Cal Lutheran win before the remaining matches were completed.
Rounding out the morning, Limpias (6-3, 6-2), Rajan (6-4, 6-2), and Balasian (6-1, 1-6, 6-4) all earned victories to finalize the 7-0 scoreline.
The Regals will look to carry their momentum into a nearly month-long break before traveling to face UC Santa Cruz on Saturday, March 14. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
