NAPERVILLE, Ill. – No. 9 Cal Lutheran men's volleyball capped a perfect Saturday at Gregory Arena with a pair of straight-set victories, sweeping Wisconsin-Stevens Point before closing the day with a 3-0 win over host North Central.
The Kingsmen showcased depth and consistency across the doubleheader, hitting above .300 in both matches while applying steady pressure from the service line and controlling play at the net. With the two wins, Cal Lu improved to 10-1 on the season.
GAME ONE: CLU def. UWSP (25-17, 25-20, 25-15)
Cal Lutheran opened the day with a sweep over Wisconsin-Stevens Point, using efficient offense and a strong blocking presence to pull away in each set.
The Kingsmen hit .390 as a team and outblocked the Pointers 8-2, setting the tone early. After claiming the opening frame 25-17, Cal Lutheran responded to a tighter second set with a timely 5-2 run late to secure a 25-20 win.
The third set was all Kingsmen, as CLU held UWSP to a negative hitting percentage while cruising to a 25-15 finish to complete the sweep.
Brendan Hom led the way with 13 kills and zero errors on a .619 clip, while
Connor Crawford added seven kills and six digs.
Tyler Linville contributed six kills and an ace, and
Matthew Wilcox anchored the net with four total blocks.
Gavin Galanski paced the offense with 28 assists, and
Braden Gonzales led all players with 13 digs.
GAME TWO: CLU def. NCC (25-21, 25-19, 25-23)
The Kingsmen closed the day with another straight-set victory, fending off multiple late pushes from North Central to complete the Saturday sweep.
Cal Lutheran used its serve to create separation throughout the match, finishing with 10 aces. The Kingsmen edged out a competitive first set, took control in the second, and held firm down the stretch in the third to seal the win.
Hom once again led the attack with 12 kills while hitting .556, and Linville followed with nine kills. Crawford chipped in eight kills and five aces, while
Nathan Diaz was highly efficient, posting five kills on seven attempts.
Keaton Hendry directed the offense with 30 assists and nine digs, and Gonzales added 10 digs in the victory.
