THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's basketball (8-7, 3-3 SCIAC) lost to CMS (15-0, 6-0 SCIAC) at home on Wednesday evening by a score of 75-66. Three Kingsmen scored in double figures, and seven different Kingsmen knocked in a three-pointer, but it wasn't enough to overcome the undefeated Stags.
CMS came into tonight ranked #9 in the country by D3Hoops.com.
Cal Lutheran started the game hot from beyond the arc, with all of the Kingsmen's first 15 points coming via three-pointers from five different players.
Jaden Young's triple gave Cal Lutheran a 15-14 lead with 12:30 remaining in the opening half. Neither team led by more than four points in a tightly-contested first 20 minutes.
Andrew Pipersburgh hit a fastbreak pull-up jumper at the buzzer just inside the three-point line to make the score 37-36 heading into the break, advantage CMS.
The Stags were able to put a run together early in the second half, extending their lead to 51-40 at the 15:25 mark. At about the midway point in the half, Cal Lutheran was able to recapture some momentum with an
Aidan Crawford layup followed by a three from
Ze'ev Remer to cut its deficit to eight. However, that was the closest the Kingsmen would get to mounting a comeback, and CMS eventually won, 75-66.
Crawford led Cal Lutheran with 12 points, and Remer contributed 11 (4/7 FG, 2/4 3FG).
Tony Angelo scored 10 points (3/6 FG, 2/4 3FG).
Cody Shen had a nice all-around performance with nine points (3/5 3FG) and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Kingsmen will look to get back in the win column on the road against Occidental on Saturday at 2pm.
