Kingsmen Tally First Win of the Season over Biola

REDLANDS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's water polo (1-3, 0-0 SCIAC) garnered its first win of the young season in an impressive 13-9 victory over Biola. The Kingsmen rode a big second period to take down the Eagles.

Biola (2-6, 0-0 WWPA) struck first with a goal at the six-minute mark of the opening period, but Paul Patterson responded quickly to tie it back up at one each. After the Eagles drew a 3-1 lead with two more goals, Levi Cook countered with two of his own and Jack Bradbury added another to capture the lead for the Kingsmen, 4-3. Biola ended the period with another score, and the teams went into the first break tied at 4.

Cal Lutheran came out on fire in the second period, with four straight goals by four different players. Patterson, Adam Scrivner, Merrick Giles, and Brody Swarm each got on the board as the Kingsmen found themselves up 8-4. Biola dropped in a goal before the half to make the score 8-5.

After an early third-period score by the Eagles, Zachary Isaac and Bradbury extended the Kingsmen's lead to five. Biola answered with another goal before the end of the third, as it trailed Cal Lutheran 7-10 entering the final period.

Giles kicked off the fourth with another conversion, and Bradbury and Dylan Villanueva kept the match out of reach for the Eagles with a couple more goals. The Kingsmen ended up winning 13-9 to enter the win column for the first time this season after a few tough matchups early in 2025.

Cook added a notable six assists and two steals while Patterson contributed three steals. Jaeger Gonzales and Jacob Taff split time in the cage, with Gonzales tallying five saves and Taff totaling four.

The Kingsmen will be back in action next weekend when they host UC Santa Barbara on Friday, September 12.
