CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran (0-2, 0-0) men's water polo fought to the end, but it wasn't enough as they fell to UC San Diego (5-3, 0-0) 20-9 on Friday afternoon.
The game was the second of three the Kingsmen will play as a part of the Inland Empire Tournament; the first being played earlier in the afternoon and the third tomorrow morning.
The Kingsmen were able to hold their ground through the first dozen minutes of game time, trailing the nations #16 ranked team 6-3.
The Kingsmen out duelled the Tritons in the fourth period, scoring three goals while San Diego scored two.
Unfortunately for the Kingsmen, an eight goal third period for the Tritons proved too much as they put the game away 20-9.
Attacker
Levi Cook led the way for Cal Lutheran, scoring the second hat trick of his collegiate career and tying a career high.
Paul Patterson added a pair of goals as well, bringing his total on the day to five.
Cook, Patterson,
Merrick Giles, and
Alan Castillo each provided one assist while
Bo DuBois grabbed nine saves in the net.
The Kingsmen will look to come away from the tournament with a win against UC Irvine tomorrow at 11:40 a.m..
