THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's soccer (6-2-1, 3-1-0 SCIAC) put up a strong game against La Verne by scoring first and early on, leading to a 3-0 victory over La Verne.
The Regals started strong and maintained their momentum throughout the course of the game. Only six minutes in, the Regals struck first.
Keira Hazard found the back of the net, assisted by
Olivia Suarez. The early advantage set the Regals up for success as they played comfortably with the lead. The Leopards fought back and got countered with a shot attempt, but Cal Lutheran goalkeeper
Kelsey Slaugh denied it. Slaugh tallied two saves in the game, maintaining the Regals' lead all half. The Leopards continued to push the pace, but the Regals fought back. The intensity ramped up, and with the first half a little over halfway complete, Suarez fired the ball into the back of the net, bringing the score to 2-0. The Regals went into the second half up two.
To start the second half,
Kira Kasarda stepped into goal. Kasarda sustained what Slaugh had started with steady play in front of the net to keep the Regals ahead. The momentum continued, and early on in the second half, Suarez scored her second goal of the game. The Leopards were persistent, but the Regals' defense held them off for the remainder of the game. With about three and a half minutes left of the game, Kasarda made her third save of the night, leading to the Regals obtaining the shutout and winning 3-0 over La Verne (0-7-3, 0-3-2 SCIAC).
The Regals will be back in action on Wednesday on the road at Redlands.
