ORANGE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's soccer (5-2-1, 2-1-0 SCIAC) put on a strong performance Wednesday night, responding to an early setback with three unanswered goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Chapman.
The Panthers struck first in the 20th minute when Athena Tsakiris sent a shot into the top corner to give the hosts the early advantage. Cal Lutheran responded just eight minutes later, with
Keira Hazard firing into the upper right side of the net to even the score at 1–1.
After halftime, the Regals kept the pressure on and broke through again in the 58th minute.
Hana Sawan struck a free kick into the center of the box when two Chapman defenders attempted to clear it with a header, but they accidentally deflected into their own goal to put Cal Lutheran ahead 2-1.
Caitlyn Turner added insurance in the 76th minute, finishing high from the center of the box off a setup by Hazard to make it 3-1.
Cal Lutheran capitalized on its opportunities, scoring three times on just seven shots, five of which were on goal. The Regals also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks while limiting Chapman to four shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Kelsey Slaugh started and tallied two first-half saves before handing things over to
Kira Kasarda, who added another stop in the second half to secure the win.
Cal Lutheran looks to carry its momentum into Saturday's home matchup against La Verne.
