THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran Regals soccer had no shortage of chances, but were ultimately unable to break through as they tied Whitworth 1-1 on Sunday.
The Regals came out boots-a-blazing as they fired four shots in the first nine minutes of game time, with almost all of those nine minutes spent on the Whitworth side of the field.
It would take a few more shots and a couple close calls before the Regals broke through and took a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, courtesy of
Stephenie Hackett, assisted by
Sawyer Frye, both first-years.
Whitworth tied it up five minutes later; which wound up all she wrote for the scoring in the contest.
That didn't mean the Regals didn't have their fair share of opportunities, as they amassed 25 shots, but only 5 on goal, plus multiple off the crossbar. Most of the game was spent on the Whitworth end of the field, but the Regals could never quite get good looks and finish the opportunities they created for themselves.
The Regals look to get back in the win column on Friday as they travel to Tacoma to take on Pacific Lutheran.
