Regals Fall Short to Panthers in Orange

ORANGE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran softball traveled to wrap up the series with No. 22 Chapman on Saturday afternoon, falling just short in both games of the doubleheader, 1-3 and 2-4.

GAME ONE: NO. 22 CHAPMAN 3, CAL LUTHERAN 1
The Regals (18-12, 9-8 SCIAC) scored their lone run of the opener in the top of the second inning. Jessica Waters got things started with a one-out double and was brought home on an RBI single from Abby Strong.

From then on, the Cal Lu offense was quiet as the Panthers retook their lead in the fourth and added one insurance run in the sixth.

Ashlyn Flinchum (7-4) struck out seven and allowed just six hits in her complete game performance, while Reyna Perez and Strong both went 2-3 in the batter's box.

GAME TWO: NO. 22 CHAPMAN 4, CAL LUTHERAN 2
It was the same story for the Regals in game two, as there was only one inning of offensive noise. This time it was Waters who tied the contest with a two-run bomb in the top of the third.

Kalli Strahm (3-3) got the start in the circle before Flinchum returned to throw the final inning. Strahm impressed at bat as well with a team-leading two hits, also marking the first multi-hit game of her career.

UP NEXT
Cal Lutheran is now in a three-way tie for third place in the conference with Pomona-Pitzer and CMS. The Regals will face No. 9 Redlands for their final regular season series this weekend as they look to secure their spot in the SCIAC Tournament.
