Regals Send Off Seniors With Program First

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The final game for Meghan Angus, Malina Diaz, and Kaitlyn Gill was one for the record books, as the Regals tallied their first win against Occidental in program history, 15-12, on Saturday afternoon.

The senior-day affair snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Tigers (9-8, 5-7).

After a 2-2 start with six minutes to play in the first period, the Regals (7-10, 3-9) rattled off a pair of goals to take the game to its first break up 4-2.

The second quarter was less kind to Cal Lutheran as the Tigers roared out to an 8-5 lead. A pair of goals from Diaz sent the game to halftime with the Regals down one.

It was a ping-pong match in the third, as five goals were scored between the two squads with neither scoring twice in a row. The game went to the fourth with the Tigers up 11-9.

It was the fourth period that did the Tigers in. After a goal to put Occidental up 12-10, the Regals would rattle off five unanswered goals to put the game away, sending the seniors off into the sunset with a win.

The Regals finish their fourth full season, their first under head coach MacEllen McDonough, with a program-record 7 wins. Diaz capped off her final season leading the team in goals (62), the most in the SCIAC, and points (73), the second most in the SCIAC.

Diaz finishes her career with 95 goals on a .495 shot percentage, 19 assists, 114 points, 98 ground balls, and 121 draw controls.

Angus finishes her career with 69 goals, 23 assists, 92 points, 59 ground balls, and 85 draw controls.
