THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –
Luke Wechsler kicked off Cal Lutheran's weekend series against the Chapman Panthers with a complete game shutout victory, 4-0. Wechsler threw an outstanding game and kept the Panthers guessing all day with nine strikeouts, allowing just four hits and no walks over nine innings.
Miscues from Chapman allowed the Kingsmen to capitalize throughout the entire game.
Lucas Danielewicz started the scoring early for Cal Lutheran with a single to left field, brining
Alec Garcia home.
Zach Gardner chimed in with an RBI double to drive in Danielewicz for a 2-0 advantage.
In the fourth,
Eric Gonzalez reintroduced himself after coming back from injury with an RBI single to extend the Kingsmen's lead to 3-0.
Sebastian Smith scored the fourth run of the game on a wild pitch from Chapman.
At one point, Wechsler had retired 12 Panthers in a row, which allowed him to last all nine innings. The offense did its part to back him up as Danielewicz and
Carlos Vega each had two hits. Danielewicz, Gardner, and Gonzalez all recorded one RBI as well.
The Kingsmen will play the next two games of the series tomorrow at Chapman with the first game starting at 11:00 a.m. and the series finale beginning at 2:30 p.m. Cal Lutheran is now 16-6 on the season and 6-1 in conference play.
