Kingsmen Sweep Hobart in Statement Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – No. 8 Cal Lutheran men's volleyball quickly recovered from its Tuesday night loss with a statement win over No. 14 Hobart College. The set scores of the match were 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.

The Kingsmen had the momentum throughout the entirety of the contest, holding the Statesmen to a .181 attack while hitting .368 percent themselves, and never giving Hobart the chance to take any sort of lead across all three sets.

Jordan Cooper led with 10 kills (.364 pct), and also added a service ace, three blocks, and a dig. Borys Horiuk and Michael Stahl both followed with seven kills each, and they combined for three blocks and four digs.

Parker Brown also had an impressive night at the net and at the service line, leading the team with five blocks and three aces.

The match saw just seven Kingsmen in action as the core group got the job done. Cal Lu enjoyed a hefty advantage in both aces (7-2) and blocks (7-3) on the night.

Ben Weber opened up the game with a kill for his first of six in the match. Up 22-16, the Kingsmen would take advantage of a Hobart service error directly followed by back-to-back aces from Brown to take it to set point, where a Cooper kill would send the game to the second.

Cal Lu went on a 7-1 run to start set two, featuring a kill from Stahl and three-straight from Cooper. The Kingsmen would extend their lead even further in the middle of the set with three back-to-back-to-back blocks.

A quick 5-0 lead would be the beginning of the third for Cal Lutheran, which the Statesmen would not be able to recover from. The game ended with three-consecutive Kingsmen points consisting of a kill and an ace from Brown and a block by Cooper and Horiuk.

With only three more regular season matches remaining, every game counts as Cal Lutheran looks to make another NCAA run. The Kingsmen will play host to Division I opponent UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, March 25 at 6 PM.
