Regals, Kingsmen Battle Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's and men's tennis went on the road to Santa Barbara on Saturday to face a Division-II opponent in Westmont College. The Regals contested tightly, but ultimately fell 3-4. The Kingsmen lost 1-6.

The Regals began the day in doubles, with Carmen Bufkin/Mina Ahmadi getting the 6-4 victory to move to 5-0 as a partnership on the season. Kylee Limpias/Maddy Ford almost brought home the team doubles point for the Regals, but they were outlasted in the tiebreaker 7-5.

In singles, Bufkin continued her dominance with a 6-3, 6-4 win, bringing her to 5-0 in singles this season (she was leading 6-4, 2-3 in an unfinished match). Bufkin is also 6-0 in doubles, and she has not lost a set in singles yet in 2025.

Limpias won 6-2, 6-3 to move to 4-0 in singles on the year (she was tied 2-6, 6-3, 0-1 in an unfinished match). Evelyn Oltmans made a comeback to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the #6-spot, giving her five-straight singles wins early in her freshman season.

With the team score knotted at three, Anya Rajan headed to the third set after winning the first 7(7)-6(2) and dropping the second 6-2. She battled, but came up just short, losing the set 7-5. The Regals lost 3-4, but it was close from start to finish. The Regals now sit at 4-2 on the year.

The Kingsmen faced a tough Warriors squad, unable to take a doubles match. Ethan Sherwood/Loup Sudre and Frederick Otto/Andy Ai fought hard despite the result on the scorecard. Sherwood/Sudre lost 7-5 and Otto/Ai were defeated 7(7)-6(2).

In singles, Carlo Drewelow was the only Cal Lutheran player to record a victory, as he won a grueling 6(4)-7(7), 6-3, 10-8 tiebreak match in the #5-spot. Drewelow is now 5-1 in singles on the year (he was tied 7-5, 2-6 in an unfinished match). Sudre pushed his match to a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-4, 10-7. The Kingsmen now sit at 3-4 on the season.

The Kingsmen are now off for almost a month, with their next match coming at home against Whitman on March 19. They will then face Colorado College the day after.

The Regals get to have some fun this weekend, as they host their alumni for an event on Saturday. They will then continue their season at home against Rensselaer on March 6.
