Ballard’s Fourth-Straight Double-Double Propels Regals to Another SCIAC Blowout Over Caltech

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's basketball (7-0, 2-0 SCIAC) handled Caltech (1-5, 0-2 SCIAC) on Saturday evening, 76-40, continuing its undefeated start to the 2025-26 season. Alline Ballard recorded her fourth-straight double-double to lead the Regals to victory.

The Regals had trouble putting the ball in the basket throughout the first quarter. A three from Natalie Villamor gave Cal Lutheran a 9-3 lead just over three minutes into the game, but the Regals would only score two more points the rest of the quarter. They still led 11-10 heading into the first break in the action.

Ballard got things going in the second, registering 10 points and four rebounds in the quarter. Back-to-back layups by Kaitlyn Brongiel at the end of the period gave Cal Lutheran a 34-25 advantage over the feisty Beavers.

Early in the third quarter, three-straight fastbreak opportunities followed by another Ballard layup pushed the Regals' lead to 44-27 as the starting lineup was able to break the game wide open.

A three-pointer from Genessa Ong, assisted by Ballard, extended Cal Lutheran's lead to 58-24 heading into the final period.

It was smooth sailing the rest of the way as the Regals won 76-40, their second-straight 25+ point victory to open SCIAC play.

Ballard tallied 22 points (9/13 FG, 4/4 FT) and 11 rebounds, adding three assists and two steals in an all-around dominant effort. Villamor was the only other Regals player to score in double-digits with 10 (2/5 3FG), and she totaled two steals on the defensive end. Kaiya Mack and Janna Holley each collected three steals, and Cal Lutheran notched 17 total steals as a team.

Undefeated to this point in the season, Cal Lutheran will take a week off before hosting UC Santa Cruz on December 14 at 2pm.
