THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's basketball (10-1, 2-0 SCIAC) took care of business on Sunday evening, beating Nazareth (6-3, 1-0 Empire 8) by a score of 85-57.
Alline Ballard had one of the most dominant games of her career, finishing one steal shy of a triple-double.
The Regals got off to a quick start by attacking the basket with 12 of their 18 points in the opening quarter coming from inside the paint. Cal Lutheran would end the game with a whopping 64 points in the paint.
Janna Holley helped get things going with six early points, including a three-pointer.
The second quarter was a big one for the Regals. After a pair of baskets by the Golden Flyers to cut the lead to 29-19 at the five-minute mark, Cal Lutheran rattled off 13-straight points to end the half with a commanding 42-19 advantage.
Nazareth got things going offensively in the third quarter, scoring more points than they did the entire first half, but Cal Lutheran kept a comfortable distance from the Golden Flyers. The Regals headed into the final quarter up 62-41.
With three minutes remaining,
Makayla Harding splashed a three-pointer to give Cal Lutheran an 81-50 lead, its largest of the game. The Regals won 85-57.
Ballard put together a monstrous statline with 27 points (12/20 FG, 3/4 FT), 12 rebounds, nine steals, three assists, and two blocks. This marked the most points, made field-goals, and steals by a Regals player this season.
Kaiya Mack had an efficient evening, dropping 17 points (6/8 FG, 5/6 FT) along with five boards, three assists, and four steals. Holley collected 13 points (5/9 FG, 1/2 3FG), four assists, and four steals.
Kaitlyn Brongiel swiped three steals as Cal Lutheran tallied 26 steals as a team.
Natalie Villamor provided a team-high six assists and added two steals.
Finished with non-conference play for the season, Cal Lutheran will go on the road to face Chapman on Saturday, January 3. The game will tip off at 4pm.
