Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Cook Puts Together Strong Effort as Kingsmen Fall to Sagehens

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's water polo (11-11, 4-6 SCIAC) played its final home game of the 2025 regular season on Wednesday evening, hosting Pomona-Pitzer (16-11, 10-0 SCIAC) in a 12-8 defeat. The Kingsmen were unable to hand the Sagehens their first loss in SCIAC play despite a solid performance from Levi Cook, who contributed a team-high three assists, four points, and five steals.

An early goal from Paul Patterson gave the Kingsmen a quick lead, but Pomona-Pitzer responded with three-straight scores to end the opening period.

The Kingsmen struck almost immediately in the second quarter as Merrick Giles got on the board, cutting Cal Lutheran's deficit to 3-2. Both teams traded goals with Zachary Isaac and Nic Mastropoalo converting for the Kingsmen, but the Sagehens took a 7-4 lead into halftime after back-to-back goals to end the period.

Patterson managed the Kingsmen's only goal of the third period, and Tre Eade tallied a score early in the fourth. Cook and Mastropoalo notched one goal each before the clock ran out, putting the final score at 12-8 Pomona-Pitzer.

Cook dropped in three assists, and Dylan Villanueva added two of his own. Giles, Patterson, and Jack Bradbury each provided an assist.

Patterson led the Kingsmen with five drawn exclusions, and Ethan Guereca added two.

On the defensive end, Cook impressed with five steals. Jaeger Gonzales spent the entire match in the cage, recording seven saves.

Cal Lutheran will look for some late-season success in its bid to clinch a berth in the SCIAC Tournament, and its final two games will be played on the road. The first of the two is an 11am matchup at Whittier this Saturday.
