CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's soccer (12-3-2, 8-2-1 SCIAC) drew a gritty 0-0 draw against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas (12-2-3, 7-2-2 SCIAC) on Saturday night.
The draw means Cal Lutheran will end the 2025 season without a loss to CMS, having beaten a then-ranked Athenas team 1-0 at the end of September.
The contest was one between two heavyweights, as Cal Lutheran and CMS sit in second and third place respectively in the SCIAC, each in excellent shape to make the conference tournament.
The star for the Regals was senior goalkeeper Kelsey Slaugh, who notched 6 saves, her second most of the season. Slaugh is yet to allow more than two goals in a game this season.
Cal Lutheran won the save battle, notching 7 to CMS' 4, while both teams found themselves in a bit of foul trouble, with the Regals committing 8 and the Athenas committing 7.
The contest ended in dramatic fashion, as, with five seconds of game remaining, a shot-on-goal from the Athenas had goalkeeper Slaugh beat, but it was saved off the head of the well-positioned Tessa French. CMS rebounded, but the shot was blocked by Slaugh, securing the draw.
The Regals are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1 as they close out their regular season at home against the Whittier Poets.
