Regals Sweep Sagehens at Home For Fifth Consecutive Victory

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Cal Lutheran women's volleyball (13-3, 6-2 SCIAC) hosted Pomona-Pitzer (7-11, 2-6 SCIAC) on Tuesday evening, winning in straight sets for the eighth time this year. Cruising to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-21 victory, the Regals are winners of five straight, dropping only two sets in that span.

The Regals opened up a 12-7 lead early in the match behind kills from five different players, including two each from Emily Ford and Tarin Rueckert. The Sagehens were able to cut the deficit to two at 15-13, but Cal Lutheran took seven of the next nine points to take a commanding lead in the opening set. Kaylee Clayton collected four kills during that run, and the Regals eventually won the set 25-19.

Up 9-8 in set two, Cal Lutheran capitalized on some Pomona-Pitzer errors and Keegan Corley registered back-to-back-to-back service aces to put the Regals up 14-8. Again, the Sagehens battled back to make it 20-18 in Cal Lutheran's favor, but two kills from Madeline Magnani and one more from Clayton iced the set as the Regals won by the same score 25-19.

The Regals stepped up at the net on defense to begin set three, and three-straight blocks from Aby Tibesar (two assisted by Ford) gave Cal Lutheran a 5-1 advantage. The Regals eventually found themselves up 19-11 after another Magnani kill. A Sagehens' attack error put the Regals in match point at 24-17, but Pomona-Pitzer still had some fight left in it, rattling off four points. A decisive kill from Tibesar finished off the feisty Sagehens, 25-21, sealing the match for Cal Lutheran.

Clayton had 11 kills and 11 digs, while Rueckert collected eight kills (.421%). Tibesar tied her season-high with five total blocks, adding seven kills (.400%). Magnani totaled five kills and two blocks. Smith had four blocks and 11 digs. Ford managed three kills and two blocks.

Corley expectedly led her team in digs with 18, adding three service aces. Setters Kylee Grimm and Makenna Kawamura continued to play well in tandem, as they each registered 17 assists. Kawamura collected 11 digs, while Grimm had seven.

Moving to 6-2 in SCIAC, the Regals are in great position so far this year. They will look to continue their success when they host a talented CMS team next Tuesday.
