LA VERNE, Calif. — Cal Lutheran women's volleyball started its 2024 campaign in outstanding fashion at the Pacific Coast Classic on Saturday. The Regals defeated both Union College and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts 3-0.

Cal Lutheran vs. Union College – 25-15, 25-18, 28-26
The Regals took their first set of the season 25-15, with senior
Sophia Muller leading the way collecting four kills. CLU also saw three kills from freshman
Emily Ford, and two apiece from
Tess Holbert,
Kira Mortensen,
Caitlin Murphy, and
Alex Hayes. The Regals took the final two points giving them a 1-0 lead.
Union continued to put up a fight in the next two sets, but nothing the Regals couldn't handle. CLU took the first four points in a row in the second set with kills from Muller and Ford. Mortensen also put up another five kills. In the final set of the match, the Regals held strong with five kills from freshman
Olivia Fernandes and five blocks from Mortensen.
Mortensen led the team with 10 kills and 10 blocks, her first double-double of the year. Sophomore
Keegan Corley collected 19 digs. Holbert and junior
Kylee Grimm kept the offense moving with 19 assists each.Â
Cal Lutheran vs. Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts – 25-21, 25-5, 25-14
The Regals kept their momentum moving into the match with MCLA. CLU absolutely dominated the second set, with a season high nine point streak. The run featured three kills from Mortensen, two from Muller, and one from sophomore
Gianna Bava. The Regals continued to fly through the Trailblazers, taking the match in three sets.Â
Again, Mortensen led CLU with six kills. Freshman
Reese Balagot picked up 15 assists and Corley had seven digs.

The Regals continue their season in St Louis, Missouri on September 6th and 7th. They will kick off their trip on Friday with matches against Johns Hopkins University and Washington University in St. Louis.
