THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran women's soccer is in the win column, securing the 2-0 victory against the Southwestern Pirates on Friday night.
Sophomore forward Elena Batazar buried her first goal of the season in the 26th minute, one of 27 total shots on goal for the Regals. Midfielder Ashley Escamilla had the assist.
The Regals came out firing in the second half, with third-year forward Anna Evenson netting a goal off a free kick by defender Hana Sawan in the 56th minute.
It was all Cal Lutheran all game, as the Regals dominated shots on goal and time of possession. They topped Southwestern 27-9 in shots on goal, and maintained possession for 61% of the game.
The Regals were lock down on defense too, only requiring first year goalie Kira Kasarda to make saves on two of the Pirates' nine shots.
"Of course you wanna look good; you wanna block a shot… but it's obvious that diverting those shots is the best way to win," Kasarda said.
The Regals will look to carry this momentum into Sunday morning as they host Concordia University Texas on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.
