Defending Champs Kick Off Season With Tie vs. Puget Sound

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The defending DIII national champions kicked off their quest for back-to-back titles with a 1-1 draw against Puget Sound on Saturday evening.

Down 1-0 in the 80th minute, first-year midfielder Kaitlyn Beavers netted the first goal of her collegiate career and the first goal of the Regals' season. Her goal swung the momentum to the Regals' side, who pressed forward in search of a game-winner but couldn't break the tie.

The Regals (0-0-1) outshot the Loggers (0-0-1) 13-8 in the match and earned eight corner kicks to the Loggers' two. The Loggers were able to capitalize on their opportunities, as their goal in the 21st minute came from a corner kick set piece.

First-year goalkeeper Kira Kasarda made her first start in net and was crucial in the result, making five saves, while the back line, led by Avery West, Savana Durr, and new-addition Tessa French, held firm.

With an exciting mix of returning leaders and new talent, the Regals look to get into a groove as they navigate their early non-conference schedule. They remain at home to take on Southwestern University (TX.) on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
