Kingsmen Fall Short vs. Pacific Lutheran 27-17

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Jaden Casey-Cade Cadam connection was on display for the purple and gold faithful, but it wasn't enough as Cal Lutheran football fell to 0-2 on the season after dropping this week's contest against Pacific Lutheran University 27-17.

Casey was solid in his second start for the Kingsmen, completing 87% (20-23) of his passes for 170 yards and one touchdown. Casey found his main target Cadam seven times as Cadam was just shy of a triple-digit day with 95 receiving yards.

The Kingsmen played a strong first half, scoring the game's first touchdown on their second drive. After an efficient eight-play drive, running back Gabe Landless ran his way into the endzone for his first touchdown as a Kingsman. Landless finished with 26 yards on 10 attempts.

Daniel Burgos nailed a field goal with 2:40 left to play in the second quarter and the first half concluded with the Lutes (2-1) leading by three, 13-10.

The Kingsmen were kept off the scoreboard in the third quarter. The Lutes pulled away in the second half with a relentless ground attack, scoring 14 straight points to make it 27-10 in favor of the Lutes with just nine minutes left to play in the fourth quarter.

With seven minutes on the clock, Casey found Anthony Valencia for a seven-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 10 points, but the Kingsmen could get no closer.

Safety Diego Serrano led the defense with 10 tackles and a forced fumble. Blake Hurley was next with seven tackles, while AJ Townsend, Jake Frey, and Max Juarez added six tackles.

The Kingsmen look to claim their first win of the season as they move into SCIAC play. They host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
