Regals Kick off Conference with a Victory

CLAREMONT, Calif. –  Cal Lutheran women's soccer continued its impressive run to start the year, opening conference play with a 1-0 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday night.

The Regals were 2-0-3 in pre-season, and are currently ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. The win over CMS brings them to 3-0-1 and 1-0 in conference.

CLU has not allowed a goal since their 6-1 blowout win over Concordia University Texas on September 8th. Kira Kasarda was in goal for the Wednesday night match and made four saves.

Ashley Escamilla scored the lone goal of the game after a Brynn McMahon free kick in the 65th minute. Riley Cardenas, Adriana Maroney, and Elena Baltazar also had a shot on goal each. The Regals out shot the Athenas just 8-7. Cal Lutheran defense continued to prove themselves dominant, holding CMS scoreless and handing them their first loss of the year.

The Regals continue conference play at home this weekend. They are set to face University of La Verne on Saturday, September 21st at 7:00 PM.
