Quinn, Kingsmen Explode for 10 Runs to Win Swing Game of Series Against Willamette

SALEM, Ore. — Josh Quinn went 4-5 and was one of five Kingsmen with two or more hits as the bats for Cal Lutheran baseball scored nine runs in the first three innings to beat Willamette 10-6 and win the series on Sunday afternoon. The Kingsmen (26-11, 13-8 SCIAC) return home after going 2-2 across a hard-fought weekend in Oregon that included the series win against the Bearcats (23-12).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Kingsmen scored two runs on three hits in the opening frame before pouring it on with five runs in the second inning. Quinn singled up the middle to lead off the inning, Noah Matsumoto was hit by a pitch, and Alec Garcia smashed his second double in as many at-bats to score a run. Blake Wink followed suit with a double to make it back-to-back extra-base hits and push the Kingsmen lead to 5-0. The inning was far from over, as Kai Caranto reached via error and Lucas Danielewicz worked a walk to load the bases. Sebastian Smith was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Quinn, in his second at-bat of the inning, singled for an RBI to cap off a monster inning for the Kingsmen.

Frank Willius (W) made his first start of the season in a bullpen game for the Kingsmen, going 2.2 innings and racking up five K's while giving up two runs.

The Kingsmen took advantage of two Bearcats errors in the third inning, turning them into two runs to extend their lead to 7-0. The Bearcats turned it around after the opening third of the contest as they outscored the Kingsmen 6-1 through the final six frames, but Colten Hanson, Kyle Johnson, Cameron Cooper, and Milan Bugarin came out of the bullpen to take care of the remaining 6.1 innings to secure the victory.
