LA VERNE, Calif. — Josh Quinn and Blake Wink homered, but Cal Lutheran baseball's eight-game win streak was snapped as they fell to La Verne 12-4 on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Leopards (18-6-1, 11-2 SCIAC) scored early and often, starting with a four-spot in the first inning and two more in the second to jump out to an early 6-0 lead. Kingsmen (20-7, 10-6 SCIAC) starter Luke Wechsler lasted 1.1 innings before Cameron Cooper entered the game for 2.1 innings in relief. Dean Olsson pitched 0.2 innings and Oscar Lopez was solid as he handled the final 3.2 innings giving up no runs on three hits.
Down 6–0 in the third inning, the Kingsmen got on the board and cut the deficit in half. Alec Garcia led off the inning with a single, Lucas Danielewicz doubled, and Wink drove everyone in with a monster three-run homer to center field.
The Leopards got two of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth, but Quinn's solo shot in the fifth made it 8-4 and kept the Kingsmen within reach. The Leopards once again answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and the Kingsmen offense was neutralized the rest of the way.
