THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's volleyball won a marathon first set 43-41 on their way to sweeping Ottawa University (AZ) on Thursday night. Scores of the match were 43-41, 25-17, 25-20.
The first set took 45 minutes as the Kingsmen and Spirit held the lead many times. It was the perfect tone for the match, which consisted of 48 ties and 20 lead changes, 34 and 15 in the first set alone. The Kingsmen picked up their 22nd win to just five losses.
The Kingsmen wrap up their regular in dominating fashion and have one more event before the postseason. The Kingsmen will host Moorpark College for an exhibition for Senior Night on Saturday at 6 pm. After that, the Kingsmen await the NCAA committee's decision, which is the Selection Show on Monday at 7 am PT.
Jordan Cooper led the way against the Spirit and had 16 kills while hitting .519. Michael Stahl was next with 12 kills, Borys Horiuk had eight, and Ben Weber added seven. The Kingsmen hit .485 as a team. Taylor Marks dished the ball with 44 assists.
On the defensive end, Logan Marks recorded 10 digs, with Cooper and T. Marks having five each. The Kingsmen recorded six solo blocks, controlling the net, as Cooper and Horiuk had two each and Stahl and Weber both had one.
The Kingsmen celebrate Senior Night on Saturday as they host Moorpark College for an exhibition at 6 pm.
