THOUSAND OAKS, Calif — No. 6 Cal Lutheran men's volleyball swept No. 18 Marymount University to wrap up the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational on Saturday night. Scores of the match were 29-27, 25-12, and 25-23.
The Kingsmen went 5-1 at their invitational with four sweeps. They also took on three ranked opponents, going 2-1. They swept No. 7 St. John Fisher, defeated Marymount and fell to No. 1 Wentworth as they improved to 20-5 on the season.
Jordan Cooper and Michael Stahl led the offense with 15 and 13 kills, respectively. The Kingsmen hit .378 as a team as Cooper hit .464, Stahl recorded .520 and Borys Horiuk hit .615 with eight kills.
Taylor Marks kept the offense moving with 35 assists. He tied for the team-high with nine digs and added two aces. Stahl also recorded nine digs, and Cooper served three aces.
Marymount tried to steal set one and were up 25-24. After a Saints' service error, Horiuk put the Kingsmen up 26-25. With the score tied at 27, Weber and Stahl swatted down back-to-back kills to win the set. The Kingsmen carried that momentum into the second set and won easily 25-12. Marymount fired back in the third and went up 17-16. The Kingsmen took a 5-0 run to take a commanding lead and coasted to their 12th sweep of the season.
The Kingsmen have almost a month off before returning to action. They have their Alumni match on March 22nd at 7 pm and then are at UC Santa Cruz on April 6th.
