PASADENA, Calif. — Thirteen Regals scored as Cal Lutheran women's water polo dominated the Caltech Beavers 20-9 on Saturday night.
Jacsen Donohue, Leila Egusa, and Bethany Metcalfe led the way with three goals while Hilda Arellano added two more. Nine more Regals scored as the offense came from all over the pool. The team tallied 15 assists on the 20 goals as Metcalfe led the way with three. Katie Knight, Waileia Lee, and Lauren Lohmeier added two assists each.
Sophie Raquel was in the cage and got the win. She made 11 saves and added two steals. Donohue and Knight matched Raquel with two steals.
The game was close early on as the Regals led just 3-2 after the first quarter. The Regals turned it on after that, outscoring the Beavers 6-1 in the second quarter, and took a 9-3 lead at the half.
The Regals kept the points coming in the second half scoring five in the third and six in the fourth. The Regals' offense and defense showed out as they shut down the Beavers for their first conference win of the season.
The Regals are back home for their next game. They host Chapman on Wednesday at 4 pm.
