(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Jan. 15, 2023) Cal Lutheran men's basketball battled but came up just short as the Kingsmen were defeated by the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 61-55 on Saturday night.
The Kingsmen are 23-4 and lost their first game since December 7th. They had won 19 straight games, which is a new program record.
The season is now in the hands of the NCAA Committee. The 2024 DIII men's basketball championship selection show will be broadcast at 10 a.m. PT on Monday, Feb. 26 on NCAA.com.
Three Kingsmen scored in double-figures as Brock Susko led the way with 11. Tommy Griffitts and Devon Lewis both had 10 and Ze'ev Remer added nine. Four Kingsmen had five rebounds, Nick Attanasio had four assists, and Susko had three steals.
The big difference in the game was free throws. The Kingsmen only attempted four free throws while the Stags had 15. The Kingsmen made three while the Stags made 15.
The Stags took an early lead and held it for most of the first half. The Kingsmen fought back late and were down 32-27 at the half. The Stags build a double-digit lead over the first five minutes of the second half. The Kingsmen responded once more cutting the lead to 49-45 with 7:16 left in the game. The Kingsmen were not able to get any closer as the Stags took the game.
