Kingsmen Fall in Game One of Three-Game Set Against Redlands

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Jan. 15, 2023) The Kingsmen scored five runs in the final two innings, but it wasn't enough as Cal Lutheran baseball dropped game one of its three-game series against Redlands by a final score of 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Redlands (6-1) scored three runs off Kingsmen starter Luke Wechsler (L, 1-1) in the top of the first inning to set the tone for the Bulldogs. The Kingsmen (2-1) got on the board in the bottom of the third after Gordon Richardson drove in Kai Caranto with a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs added runs in the sixth and eighth innings to make it a 5-1 game. The Kingsmen chipped away at the lead by scoring two in the bottom of the eight. Josh Quinn, Blake Wink, and Alec Garcia all reached base to load the bases with no outs, and Lucas Danielewicz drove in two runs with an RBI single. The Kingsmen wouldn't push across any more runs in the inning, though, leaving three runners on base.

The Bulldogs answered right back with three runs of their own in the top of the ninth inning to make it 8-3 going into the last half inning. The Kingsmen went down fighting, scoring three runs in the ninth but couldn't keep it going to force extra innings.
