Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Win Streak Hits 18 on Senior Day

(THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Jan. 15, 2023) Tommy Griffitts and Patrick Renane led the way with 14 points each, Devon Lewis added 11, Stephen Davis had 10, and Cal Lutheran men's basketball finished its tremendous regular season with a 70-57 win against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

The Kingsmen celebrated their graduating class before the game, honoring Griffitts, Lewis, Riley O'Connor, Renane, Lojong Andarea Ladu, and London Tyck. With the win, the Kingsmen finish the year with an overall record of 22-3, the second-most wins in a season in program history. They also finished a perfect 14-0 at Gilbert Arena and head into the playoffs red hot, riding an 18-game win streak.

The Kingsmen bombarded the Sagehens (18-6, 11-4 SCIAC) with three-pointers out of the gate, making seven out of their first eight shots from beyond the arc. They led by as many as 15 in the half and went into the break up by 10, 35-25.

They only added more cushion when the second half began. At the 15:17 mark, O'Connor made a beautiful pass to Desi Burrage who hit an and-one layup to cap off a 12-3 Kingsmen run and extend the lead to 47-28.

For the next 12 minutes, the Kingsmen continued to score efficiently and held off the Sagehens from making a comeback, not letting them within 10 points. Up by 65-53 with two minutes to go, Devon Lewis converted a tough up-and-under layup on the fastbreak. His bucket acted as the dagger as the Kingsmen cruised the rest of the way.

The Kingsmen will enjoy a home-court advantage against an opponent to be determined in the semifinal round of the SCIAC Tournament. Catch Kingsmen playoff basketball at Gilbert Arena on Friday, Feb. 23.
