CORONA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran men's and women's golf teams started their 2024 spring season with both being runner-up at the Leopard Spring Invitational.
The tournament was hosted by the University of La Verne at Dos Lagos Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday. The teams shot 18 holes each day as the Kingsmen finished with 586 strokes and the Regals had 636.
Competing for the team score on the men's side were Adam Cartozian, JP Guimaraes Jr., Jot Singh, Hudson Solters, and Blake Fitzhugh. Nick Huffman played as an individual.
Huffman had the lowest score of any Kingsmen and carded a 70 over the first 18 holes and a 74 over the final 18 for 144 strokes. Cartozian led the way for the team score and fired a 71 in the first round and a 74 in the second for 145 strokes.
Guimaraes Jr. and Singh tied as they both totaled 146 strokes. They both shot 74-72. Solters was next with 74-75-149 and Fitzhugh had 74-79-153.
For the Regals, Anna Poulin, Kaylie Hesse, Ashley Zook, Brooke Alderson, and Maya dela Rama competed for the tea and Victoria Ruiz was an individual.
Poulin led the way and fired a 71 over the first round. She had an 80 in the second and finished with 151 strokes. Hesse was next and had a 79 on the first day and an 82 over the second for 161 strokes. Zook was right behind Hesse and recorded an 84-78-162.
Alderson continued the low scoring for the Regals and shot a 78 in the first round. She had n 85 in the second and had 163 strokes. Ruiz shot 90-84-174 and dela Rama had 94-84-178.
The teams are back in action on February 24th and 25th for SCIAC #1.
