Kingsmen Win Fifth Straight Behind Lewis’ 43 Points

WALLA WALLA, Wash.Devon Lewis set seven new career highs as Cal Lutheran breezed past Whitman, 98-87, to secure its fifth straight win on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Kingsmen's first win against Whitman since Nov. 23, 2007, snapping a three-game skid against the Blues.

The Kingsmen's 98 points were a new season high, trouncing their previous high of 81. Of their six wins, it is their fourth by a margin of at least 10 points.

It was a record-setting day for Lewis, setting career highs in points (43), minutes (37), field goals made (13), three-point field goals made (5), and free throws made (12). It has been a senior season to remember so far for Lewis, as he has set career highs in every notable statistic this season.

It was a back-and-forth game for the first 15 minutes of the first half, with multiple lead changes. Cal Lutheran didn't maintain a lead of more than five before a 17-8 run gave it a 14-point advantage going into half.

Although the Blues outscored the Kingsmen 51-48 in the second half, they would never cut the deficit to fewer than nine as Cal Lutheran would take care of business and close out its sixth win of the season, 98-87.

Head coach Russell White commended Lewis' performance while also shining a light on other Kingsmen who propelled the team to the win.

"Devon's performance was incredible and the result of a lot of hard work, but there were many guys that stepped up tonight. Hitting shots when needed to bring the momentum back to our squad, including Nick [Attanasio], Matt [Verkamp], and Jake [Martin]. Really good weekend for the Kingsmen in Washington," he said.

The Kingsmen are back in action at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, against Lewis & Clark at Gilbert Arena.
