ORANGE, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's water polo took the loss after a late comeback attempt on Saturday afternoon, falling to No. 5 Chapman 19-13 at Allred Aquatics Center.
Kayden Sourbeer and
Cormac Flanders led the Kingsmen in the defeat with three goals and an assist each, followed by
Ethan Guereca and
Paul Patterson who each netted two.
Jacob Taff and
Jaeger Gonzales split time in goal, combining for nine saves.
For the Panthers, Nate Randolph led with five goals and Nathan Jones followed closely with four. Jackson Sanders made 15 saves in goal.
Cal Lutheran (13-11, 6-3 SCIAC) had a rocky start, only scoring five goals in response to Chapman's 11. Down by six in the final period, put up a fight and netted five goals in an attempt to comeback, but the Panthers did not let up, matching the Kingsmen with five more of their own.
The victory brings Chapman to 13-12 overall and 7-3 in conference play, which secures them the #3 seed in the SCIAC Tournament.
Cal Lutheran looks to regroup for the final week of the regular season as they host No. 9 Occidental on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. The Kingsmen sit at fourth in the SCIAC while Oxy ranks eighth.
