Kingsmen Defeated in First Round of SCIAC Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran men's water polo lost to CMS in the opening round of the 2024 SCIAC Tournament on Tuesday night by a score of 12-7. The Kingsmen entered the postseason match as the 5-seed in the conference while the Stags hosted as the 4-seed.

First-year Merrick Giles and senior Kayden Sourbeer each scored one goal in the opening period to tie the score at 2-2 after the first eight minutes.

The Stags caught fire in the second period, outscoring the Kingsmen 4-1. The third continued with a CMS run, and Cal Lutheran found itself trailing 5-10 entering the final period.

Late-game goals from Giles and senior Cormac Flanders weren't enough in the end as CMS captured the win and advanced to the SCIAC Tournament semifinals.

Sourbeer finished with two goals and an assist while Flanders chipped in two goals himself. Giles connected on both of his two shot attempts, and graduate student Zane Hermann added the other Kingsmen goal.
