IRVINE, Calif. – Tommy Griffitts dropped a double-double, but it wasn't enough as Cal Lutheran men's basketball fell to Concordia University Irvine 86-73 on Saturday night. 

Griffitts put up 18 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-12 from the field and 1-2 from three. It is the first double-double by a Kingsmen player this season. 

Senior Nick Attanasio and junior Ze'ev Remer each dropped double digit points with 14 and 11, respectively.

Cal Lutheran kept it close, trailing 42-49 at the half, but it was unable to overcome the seven-point deficit in the second half, getting outscored 37-31. 

The Kingsmen outshot CUI from three, shooting 39% (11-28) to the Eagles' 33% (5-15), but were held to 40% (26-64) from the field compared to CUI's 52% (33-63). Attanasio especially shined from behind the arc, going 4-8. 

The entire Eagles starting lineup put up double-digit points, which was ultimately too much for the Kingsmen to overcome.

Asked about the game, head coach Russell White said, "I was happy with how we competed and played against a quality opponent. Looking forward to cleaning some things up in practice this week for the next one."

The Kingsmen are back to regular season play with their home opener on Thursday, November 21 vs. Whitworth University.
