Kingsmen Falter After Strong First Half Against CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Cal Lutheran football led by 10 points in the first half but could not withstand Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' second-half surge, dropping their fourth straight game 41-24 on Saturday afternoon.

The Kingsmen (1-8, 1-6 SCIAC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead early in the second thanks to a 32-yard field goal from K Daniel Burgos and a 2-yard touchdown run by RB Gabe Landless. The Stags (7-2, 5-1 SCIAC) got on the board with a 39-yard touchdown run, but Landless answered with his second touchdown of the day at the 3:13 mark of the second quarter to give the Kingsmen a 10-point lead at the break.

The Stags completely flipped the script after halftime, scoring 20 straight points in the third quarter and another 14 in the fourth quarter. With 6:52 left in the fourth, QB Jaden Casey found WR Cade Cadam for a 10-yard score, but that was all the offense the Kingsmen could muster as the Stags dominated the ground game to cruise to their win.

Casey finished 20-36 with 239 passing yards. Cadam continued to feast as the SCIAC's premier offensive weapon, catching eight passes for 119 yards and a touchdown, marking his fourth-straight game with triple-digit receiving yards. Desmond Thompson posted 39 receiving yards, Taylor Evans had 30, Jake Biaz had 26, Johnathan Borjas had 20, and Davian Gonzalez had 16.

Defensively, Jake Frey snagged an interception and had five tackles. Hunter Hall and Jackson White both posted sacks, with Hall adding six tackles and White adding five. Arthur Orta and Agenhart Ellis IV led the team with nine tackles, with Ellis IV adding three pass breakups as well. Diego Serrano and Joshua Christopher had eight tackles, Blake Hurley and AJ Townsend had six, and Max Juarez had five.

The Kingsmen look to end their season on a W when they host La Verne next Saturday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
