Rascon Scores Late to Keep No. 17 Regals Undefeated on Senior Day

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - On the brink of being handed its first loss in almost a full year, Nevaeh Rascon (3) scored in the 83rd minute to tie UC Santa Cruz 1-1 and keep Cal Lutheran women's soccer undefeated on Senior Day.

Before the match, the Regals (7-0-4, 5-0 SCIAC) celebrated their graduating class of Avery West, Elisa Shott, Adriana Maroney, Savana Durr, Ellie Ruhoff, Alyssa Moran, Madie Fahey, Jazlyn Campbell, and Rascon.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half, resulting in the eighth-straight Regals game that the score was knotted up at halftime.

It was the Banana Slugs (5-2-5) that struck first, scoring in the 55th minute to take the lead.

Trailing 1-0 with the clock ticking away, Rascon drew a foul on the left side of the field just outside of the box, giving the Regals their biggest scoring opportunity of the match. Rascon took a shot off the set piece and put it into the top right corner to tie it up 1-1. After missing most of the 2023 campaign due to injury, the graduate student delivered her biggest moment as a Regal, staving off what would have been the Regals' first loss in 360 days.

Up next, the Regals get back to SCIAC action as they remain at home against Whittier. The Regals look to remain undefeated when they take on the Pirates on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
