KTHOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Olivia Suarez (4) scored for the third game in a row and Adriana Maroney (1) netted the game-winner to lead No. 17 Cal Lutheran women's soccer to its fifth straight W, beating Caltech 2-1 on Saturday evening.
Suarez got the Regals (7-0-3, 5-0 SCIAC) the first goal of the match in the 14th minute. Her team-leading fourth goal of the season continued her hot streak, as she's now scored in each of her last three games.
Just before the half ended, the Regals once again conceded a late first-half goal as the Beavers (2-6-1, 1-4 SCIAC) knotted it up at 1-1. For the seventh game in a row dating back to Sept. 8 vs. Concordia Texas, the Regals went into the break with the game tied up.
But like the Regals always do, they found the game-winning goal before the end of the match. This time it was Maroney who delivered, scoring her first goal of the season in the 66th minute to give the Regals the lead. Maya Blodgett had the assist.
Avery West, Tessa French, Brynn McMahon, and the rest of the Regals defense limited the Beavers' chances late to close out the game.
The Regals outshot the Beavers 16-8 and earned five corners to the Beavers' one. Kira Kasarda was in goal and made three saves en route to her fifth win of the season.
With the win, the Regals stayed undefeated in conference play, bolstering their first-place standing in SCIAC. They remain at home and will celebrate Senior Day against UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 11 a.m.
