THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Cal Lutheran men's basketball finished off its six-game homestand with a 90-72 win against Chapman on Saturday afternoon
With the result, the Kingsmen (10-3, 3-1 SCIAC) extend their win streak to six games dating back to Dec. 18 and are now tied for second place in the SCIAC standings behind Pomona-Pitzer.
Devon Lewis led the Kingsmen in scoring with 24 points and Tommy Griffitts set a new season-high in points and rebounds with 20 and 13 for a double-double. Brock Susko and Nick Attanasio broke double-figure scoring with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
It was a tale of two halves for the Kingsmen, as they took over in the second half to pull away for the victory.
The Kingsmen struggled from the field in the first half, shooting 39.29% (11-28) from the field, but made up for it by forcing 10 Panther (7-6, 1-3 SCIAC) turnovers and making five more free throws to keep the score close. Going into halftime, the Kingsmen only trailed by one, 34-33.
After scoring nine straight points out of the break, the Kingsmen used their momentum and took over the second half. They outscored the Panthers 57-38 over the last 20 minutes and were lights-out from beyond the arc, going 8-11 (72.73%) from three compared to just 2-6 (33.33%) in the first half.
The Kingsmen look to push their win streak to seven games when they go on the road to take on La Verne on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 pm.
